EUlpan lessons

Hebrew is a language spoken by over 7 million people around the world. It is one of the oldest languages in existence, that has seen its revival in the early 20th century as a precursor to the modern State of Israel. In September, we will be launching for the 12th consecutive year, a new season of EUlpan – Hebrew Classes in the European Quarter. At the EJCC’s EUlpan, we enable you to learn modern Hebrew. Our approach is teaching Hebrew in Hebrew, the most effective method for teaching this language, by our professional teacher from Israel: Maayan Smith. All lessons will be given at lunch time, to 4 different levels:

  1. Beginners: We’ll start from scratch, no previous knowledge needed.

  2. Intermediate 1: at least 1 year of Ulpan; Familiar with the Aleph Bet; Reading (slowly) without vowels; Conversation: Be able to present oneself and a classmate; conduct a basic interview (use of question words and prepositions)

  3. Intermediate 2: At least 2 years of Ulpan; good control of Aleph bet (both print and hand-written); Reading without vowels; Grammar/vocabulary: Familiar with adjectives&adverbs, infinitives, using the word “את” Conversation: Be able to present oneself and a classmate, discuss one’s daily routine, hobbies (likes/dislikes)

  4. Advanced: at least 4 years of Ulpan; Reading without vowels in a good pace; Grammar vocabulary: Familiar with present and past tenses, be able to identify root and “binyan” of a verb. Conversation: Be able to talk about current and past events, describe a vacation you took, write a simple book report about something you read.

It takes place once a week from Monday to Friday. Students register for a cycle of 7 lessons of 90 minutes once a week, for a fee of 139 euro per cycle. At the end of the cycle, the students can decide rather they want to continue or not. All classes will take place at lunch time, in the EU district; exact dates and times of the lessons will be decided by the group together. All students must go through a security screening, and will be enrolled only after clearance.
